How to get a BREEAM certificate

A BREEAM certificate is not a formality but an extensive, independent process that starts as soon as a developer or building owner expresses the ambition to build or renovate demonstrably sustainably.

Below is the full route and benefits for your organization.A BREEAM certificate is awarded to buildings that meet specific criteria in the area:Project registration with the DGBC The owner reports the project to the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC).

In addition, the sustainability goals, the desired certification score and the schedule are set so that the architect, contractor, installers and consultants are on the same page from day one. Comprehensive assessment in nine categories ‍ BREEAM-NL assesses not only energy consumption but also water savings, indoor environment, health, transport, material selection, waste management, ecology and management. Credits can be earned for each category. The more credits, the higher the end result, leading to an office that is both economical and pleasant for employees. Data collection and calculation via the BREEAM Assessment Tool ‍ During design and construction, specialists collect evidence such as EPC calculations, material certificates, ventilation tests and lighting simulations.

The BREEAM Assessment Tool converts this data into points and immediately shows opportunities for improvement, so that the team can make timely adjustments to achieve the intended score. ‍ ‍ Independent verification at locationUpon completion, an accredited BREEAM assessor performs an inspection.
